Chemically Resistant Bund Lining
An existing 1960’s bund around a water treatment plant was lined with mastic asphalt which had been coated several times. The bund contained spillages of 12% hydrochloric acid and other aggressive chemicals and salts. Over the years chemical spills had severely attacked the bund lining which had failed and the concrete slab under the lining had also been badly attached by the chemicals.
The bund was on the second floor and, when washed down, water and chemicals leaked through the slab into the production area below.
It was obvious that urgent remedial action was necessary but the area was critical to production and could not be shut down except at Christmas.
What Did the Customer Want to Achieve from the Remedial Work?
- Permanent reinstatement of the bund lining to provide a chemically resistant, non-slip, easy clean surface.
- Elimination of leaks to the floor below.
- No loss of production.
- No noxious odours from the products used so that other essential maintenance work could be carried out simultaneously in the area without disruption.
- Reinstatement of the drains.
