Refurbishment of Heavy Engineering Facility
Federal Mogul in Bradford
In 2008, Federal Mogul decided to embark on a planned major refurbishment programme for their piston ring factory in Bradford.
Central to this programme was the overlayment of the existing painted floors which had some cracks and, through very heavy traffic over the years, had become worn, uneven and unsightly.
The work was planned in five phases over several months to minimise disruption to manufacture.
What Did Federal Mogul Want to Achieve from the Floor Refurbishment Work?
- A seamless, very hard wearing floor to facilitate smooth operation of pallet movers, forklifts and stillages.
- Minimise joints and treat all cracks.
- Obtain a cleanable, low maintenance, non-slip surface.
- Greatly improved aesthetics to complement modern machinery.

- Liaise very closely with the customer to schedule the work during shutdowns and weekends.
- Treat all cracks and construction joints with Stonproof CT5 fibreglass reinforced crack treatment bandage.
- Install Stonclad GS epoxy mortar overlayment at 6mm thick sealed with Stonkote GS4 epoxy coating combined with anti-slip Texture 2.
- Power trowel all open floor areas to reduce installation times to a minimum.
