Pharmaceutical Packaging Area

Complete renovation of an existing warehouse and production area to create a 3,000m2 pharmaceutical packaging and distribution area.

What Did the Customer Want to Achieve?

  • Removal of existing vinyl sheet, areas of ceramic tiles and existing epoxy paint.
  • Repair and extensive re-levelling of the old concrete slab.
Minimization of the number of joints.
  • Overlaying of the whole floor with a decorative epoxy screed capable of withstanding powered pallet movers. Floor to be easy clean, low maintenance and sufficiently non-slip to be safe.
  • Provision of coving to all vertical surfaces and airlocks and internally to weigh-pits.
  • Provision of a uniform floor colour if a future Phase 2 of the project went ahead.
  • All products to be used had to be very low odour to allow other trades to work and to allow the main production facility and offices to suffer no disruption.

Stonhard Single Source Solution

  • Removal of existing floor surfaces and floor preparation carried out by Stonhard out of normal hours and at weekends to minimise disruption.
  • Extensive re-levelling and repair to the old concrete slabs using Stonset TG5 epoxy concrete.
  • All joints and cracks treated with Stonproof CT5 fibreglass bandage to ensure a seamless floor.
  • Stonblend GSI decorative epoxy floor laid with a powertrowel to ensure a flat finish.
  • All coves hand trowelled integrally with the main floor in Stonblend GSI to provide an exact match to the floor.
  • All products used – Stonset TG5 epoxy concrete, Stonclad GS epoxy mortar, Stonblend GSI and primers – were all very low odour.
  • All the decorative sand for Phase 1 and for the future Phase 2 was manufactured by Stonhard in one batch. The sand for Phase 2 was stored by Stonhard for two years but when Phase 2 went ahead there was an excellent colour match to Phase 1.

Install was carried out over two months – customer requirements all met.
