For its new store in the Lisbon area, a leading wholesale food retailer set out to create a modern shopping environment supported by a flooring system designed to withstand heavy foot traffic and strict hygiene standards.
Challenges & Customer Requirements
The facility operates under continuous pedestrian movement, forklifts and pallet jackets, and rigorous cleaning regimes. Daily exposure to moisture and spillages increased the risk of slips and surface wear, making slip resistance and chemical resistance essential performance requirements.
At the same time, the store’s prominent location demanded a refined, contemporary retail aesthetic. The challenge was to install a flooring system capable of enduring intense operational use while preserving visual quality—without compromising safety, durability, or design.
Solution
To meet these demands, Stonhard installed 6,000 m² of Stonclad UR, a premium polyurethane resin flooring system with a long-established track record in food and beverage environments, engineered to deliver outstanding performance in high-traffic retail spaces.
A layer of Stonkote HT4 high-performance polyurethane coating was applied as the topcoat, incorporating zone-specific textures: a smooth finish in dry areas and enhanced slip resistance in cold zones. This tailored approach delivered targeted safety where required while maintaining excellent cleanability and a consistent visual appearance throughout the store.
