Stonhard Spain has completed a major industrial flooring project for a global leader in the production of fragrances, flavours and animal feed additives headquartered in Barcelona. With a legacy dating back to 1949, the client recently expanded its operations with the launch of a new 1,800m² manufacturing and packaging facility dedicated to fragrance production.
Challenges & Customer Requirements
As production was set to begin at the newly constructed facility, the client faced several critical flooring challenges. The environment demanded a surface capable of withstanding exposure to aggressive chemicals and heavy machinery, requiring high chemical and mechanical resistance. In addition, antistatic properties were essential to maintain safety in sensitive production areas. Aesthetics and hygiene were also key priorities, with the client seeking a clean, professional-looking surface that aligned with brand standards. Although multiple flooring systems from various suppliers were tested, none fully met the performance and durability specifications.
Solution
To address these challenges, Stonhard Spain delivered a customised, multi-layer resin flooring solution tailored to the facility's specific needs. The system included Stonset TG5, a durable mortar that provided structural integrity; Stonclad GS, a heavy-duty layer offering superior resistance to chemicals and mechanical impact and Stonkote ESD in a Pewter finish, which added electrostatic discharge protection and a sleek, easy-to-maintain appearance. The installation was strategically phased in two parts. The first stage involved laying the mortar and applying a temporary seal before installing equipment. Once the machinery was in place, Stonhard Spain returned to carry out the final sealing, ensuring the flooring was protected and undamaged during the fit-out process.
The result is a state-of-the-art production environment featuring a resilient, hygienic, visually appealing flooring system.
